Randall L. Smith, Sr.

Atwood, TN

Funeral services for Mr. Randall Smith will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Espy officiating.  Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Lavinia, TN. Visitation with the family will be at the church from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.


Mr. Smith, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.


Randall was born in Union City, TN to the late Marshall L. Smith and Mary Sue Wheatley Smith. He was a graduate of Trezevant High School “Class of 1963”. He later received a Bachelor of Science degree while serving in the Army. He joined the U. S. Army after high school graduation where he would retire after 31 years of service including Vietnam service as a Command Sergeant Major. After this retirement, he began his own courier business which his son still operates. Randall and his wife Shirley have traveled the world more than once during their time together. Randall enjoyed watching old western movies, listening to southern Gospel music, telling jokes and making people laugh, and spending time with his dog Ginger Marie.


A proud American and patriot, Mr. Smith has been a member of Vietnam Veterans of America where he served on the board; VFW Post 26 in Humboldt where he has served as Post Commander, West Tennessee Vice Commander, and 9th District Commander; American Legion in Medina; Disabled Veterans of America; and Masonic Lodge in Jackson, TN.


Randall was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall “Randy” Smith, Jr.; brother, Jimmy Wayne Smith.


He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley McClearen Smith; son, Timothy Loyd Smith, daughter, Sharon Lynne Smith Thomas and husband Andrew; daughter-in-law, Kristy Smith; grandchildren, Haley Ann Smith, Brandon Lawrence Hecht and wife Nikki.
