John Paul Todd, 88, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born in Humboldt, TN on November 14, 1937, to the late Jesse Thomas Todd and Annie Lou (Campbell) Todd.

Known lovingly by his family as "Papa John", John lived a full life with an unwavering love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born and raised in a loving Christian home, he knew early in life that only true peace and salvation come from a relationship with the Creator of all things, our Heavenly Father. In honoring his Lord, John was a lifelong member of Gregory's Chapel Assembly of God Church, where his parents were founding members. John served many years as a Sunday school teacher and member of the elder board at the church he loved so very much.

John had another love growing up as a teenager at Gadsen High School: Baseball. From his childhood listening to major league games on the transistor radio, his passion for the game would be one that would last a lifetime. He loved his New York Yankees and was still rooting for them on the TV just a few days before his passing. He enjoyed spending countless hours playing catch with his two sons early in their lives. He loved being there in the stands and supporting his boys at every game he could attend. John also coached Little League teams where he taught many other youngsters about the love of America's favorite pastime.

Later in life, John was instrumental in organizing a church softball team for both men and women's play. Some of his most treasured memories were the Saturday church league games at the ballfield built on the church grounds. He loved competing in this and several other leagues the church teams played in. He was part of a team of players who won several league and tournament championships and represented Gregory's Chapel so proudly on the field.

John also enjoyed hunting and fishing. An avid quail hunter growing up, he spent many Saturday mornings in the fields doing what he loved and was quite a marksman in his day. And when it came to fishing, his competitive spirit would kick in, and you would hear him start each outing with "Ok- we're going for the first, biggest, and most fish today". And of course, he would be the big winner on most occasions.

Outside of his love for Christ, and certainly above any of his recreational passions, was his love for his family. John Paul was a lucky young man when he landed the love of his life, Robbie Jean McCoy. The couple were married on April 5, 1957, and thus began a legacy and creation of a family tree that he was so thankful for and proud of. That tree would end up producing three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. With great sadness, but with acceptance of God's will, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Jeffrey Alan Todd, and later in life, one great grandchild, Luna Claire Soler.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Robbie Jean (McCoy) Todd; daughter Vicki Blaylock (Cobby) and son Kevin Todd (Julie); Grandchildren: Laura Brown (Matt), Autumn Soler (Miguel), Danielle Cash (Ethan), Landon Todd (Summer), Annie Todd, Bryn Todd, and Keller Todd. Great grandchildren: Noah Blaylock, Bryson Cash, Liam Brown, Lilly Soler, Wren Brown, and Nori Soler.

Visitation with the Todd family will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Gregory's Chapel Assembly of God. Family graveside services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt.
