                        “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;

                         They shall mount up with wings as eagles;

                         They shall run, and not be weary;

                         And they shall walk, and not faint.”

Mr. Jerry Wayne Thompson, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 24, 2026. He was at his home in Fruitland, TN, and in the presence of many family members and friends. He bravely fought a long, hard battle with cancer.

Jerry was born in Finley, TN, to the late Jasper Newton Thompson and Martha F. Simpson McCanless. He served his country in the US Army then began a career as a mechanic. Jerry owned and operated Thompsons Auto Repair near Trenton for many years. He and his wife of 46 years, Shirley Ann Cowan Thompson are members of Oak Grove Church in the Edison Community where he often plays and sings. Music has long been a main event in his life and he has learned to play a variety of instruments and enjoys singing; especially gospel music. Jerry and Shirley can often be found at nursing homes playing for the families. When not working, music was his focus, but he also enjoyed any kind of fishing. He loved his family dearly and was the most awesome “Pappy” ever!

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; step-dad, Bill McCanliss; brother, Eddie Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Thompson; daughter, Cari Anne Mobley (Todd); sons, Stenson Hughes, David Hughes (Lana); brother, Danny Thompson; grandchildren, April, Alicia, Brittany, Amanda, Jessi, Carter, Tiffany, Laura, Landon; many great grandchildren; and just recently, twin great-great grandsons; dear friends and school mates, The Bowen Lane Guys.

Private family services will be held.
